The Assistant Director of Post-Award reports to the Associate Director of Post-Award, and will be responsible for leading and managing the core functions of the post-award financial management for grants and contracts, including overseeing the managers and day-to-day operations of the post-award teams.

Responsibilities: Leads and manages the post-award operations of a research administration functional area by establishing strategic priorities, interpreting policies, and reviewing business processes related to financial compliance, reporting, audit, and/or award closeouts on behalf of the division.

  • 15% Directs service-oriented training and outreach to communicate and implement policies and procedures related to post-award research administration operations
  • 35% Approves or reviews processes or activities related to financial compliance, audit, or reporting on behalf of the institution
  • 15% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes project objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and/or staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan
  • 20% Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the institution
  • 5% Develops and monitors the budget
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Qualifications:

Well-qualified candidates will have the following preferred work experience:
1) Five or more years of experience administering research activities at a major educational institution.
2) Demonstrated management experience in Research Administration, including such areas as proposal review and submission, contract negotiation, award terms and conditions, and award management.
3) Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate professional and administrative staff.
4) Superior oral, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment across organizational units at all organizational levels, including faculty, deans, divisional and central administration and senior institutional officials.
5) Demonstrated experience with the development and/or use of complex electronic systems.
6) Candidate must provide leadership with directing and overseeing operations and services related to post-award activities administered by Research and Sponsored Programs.
7) Knowledge of the broad spectrum of training requirements needed for departmental and central research administrators.
8) Demonstrated strong working knowledge of federal and non-federal grant and contract administration, including policies and best practices at research universities.
9) Experience with federal, state, and university regulations governing grant activities.
10) Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience with planning, directing, and managing policies and best practices in grants management.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $125,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The salary for this position is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
