Overview
The division of university advancement provides leadership in two
significant ways that supports the university in fulfilling her
mission, aims, and goals. The first and primary focus is the
engagement of her alumni, parents, students, and friends, while the
second focus is raising philanthropic support from these
constituents. Both foci are necessary, critical, and
interdependent. The result is a stronger university that is
positioned to fulfill her annual and on-going priorities.
The Assistant Director of Regional Alumni Engagement will be
responsible for increasing engagement with our alumni throughout
the country by developing programming that engages our alumni
regionally. By engaging constituents on campus and in key markets,
as well as through natural milestones like reunions, the assistant
director will help ensure we have an engaged and willing donor
base.
The assistant director will work with other members of the Alumni
Engagement team, colleagues within University Advancement, and
campus partners to develop and execute engaging and diverse
programming in our key markets and secondary markets that attract
alumni and donors.
The assistant director will support University fundraising efforts
by conducting discovery visits with potential alumni volunteers and
donors to the University.
Some travel is required with up to 35% of the time spent outside
the office for events or visiting with alumni and friends of the
university. Visits and events consist of travel in the DMV area and
East Coast along with travel to the Midwest, West Coast, and South.
The Assistant Director will support the Senior Associate Director’s
efforts in our five key markets of D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia,
New York City, and Boston. He/she will be tasked with planning
events in our emerging markets across the country and testing the
viability of creating formalized regional alumni networks in those
secondary markets.
The Assistant Director will work with the Division of Enrollment
Management to leverage alumni in the admissions process, using
alumni to help identify and attract qualified students to CatholicU
and help convert them to Cardinals.
The ability and access to drive a vehicle (campus or non-campus) on
behalf of university business.
Responsibilities
Plan and implement a robust slate of in person programming in
Baltimore and Boston. These program offerings should engage and
re-engage current and prospective donors. Conduct visits with
alumni; focusing on potential board members, speakers, and
unassigned prospects for discovery. Recruit potential volunteers
for the Baltimore and Boston regional alumni networks. Once boards
are launched, continue to recruit and manage volunteers. Plan and
implement events in our secondary/emerging markets and start to
recruit alumni volunteers. Determine if there is a need for
formalized regional alumni networks in those markets.
Utilize Raiser’s Edge (RE) database to document communications,
visits, and other relevant information about donor and prospect
moves management. Effectively communicate results of contacts to
appropriate Advancement and University staff. Collaborate with
Enrollment Management on diversifying and expanding our applicant
pool. Work with the Office of Admissions to promote the Alumni
Association at programs such as Odyssey Day and Orientation.
Collaborating with the Office of Admissions, develop ways to
leverage young alumni in the admissions process.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years experience in higher education,
non-profit or similar work setting, or applicable volunteer
experience in lieu of work experience. Experience dealing with
volunteer management, alumni relations, event management,
fundraising, or related responsibilities. Previous alumni relations
work or fundraising is desired. Experience in event management and
volunteer management is desirable.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle
deadline pressure and flexibility to pivot when needed.
Detail-oriented, ability to multitask, excellent interpersonal
skills, and ability to motivate volunteers and colleagues.
Knowledge of or active interest in learning all about the
University and the Alumni.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Google for
Education, and ability to learn new software programs and functions
including donor database and online community.
Possession of current and valid U.S. driver’s license appropriate
to the type of university vehicle and an acceptable Motor Vehicle
Driving Record (MVR) as stipulated in the Vehicle Guidelines and
Procedures Manual administered through the office of Environmental
Health and Safety. Annual clearance of MVR check through the Office
of Environmental Health and Safety.
