We are looking for two people to join us in London as Assistant Economists to work in our expanding Consultancy team. In exceptional circumstances recruitment may be at Economist level. The roles are suitable for candidates with up to two years relevant workplace experience. Successful candidates will contribute research, analysis and drafting to our bespoke client projects.

We work with a range of clients in the financial services, corporate and government sectors. We are looking for talented candidates interested in applying their economic education and analytical skills to help our clients answer their most pressing questions.

Examples of the type of work the team delivers include:

  • Supporting macro due diligence on Private Equity deals around the world
  • Analysing market prospects, such as for AI for a European government
  • Assessing firms’ contributions to jobs and turnover, including for Deliveroo

You will be responsible for delivering parts of larger projects and the entirety of smaller projects, including liaising with clients. As part of your work, you will have the opportunity to further develop your economic analysis skills and apply those skills to real-world questions faced by companies, governments, and industry representative bodies. You will learn how a range of analytical techniques (such as economic forecasting, econometrics, survey analysis) are applied in a professional environment. You will also gain experience in presenting and communicating economic concepts and analysis, and how to tailor your communication style to a range of audiences. In addition to building your technical expertise, you will also develop your time management skills and learn how to balance work across competing priorities.

You will benefit from being exposed to Capital Economics’ broader team of country and sector economists. This includes attending internal discussions on the economic outlook and our house view as well as having access to the full suite of Capital Economics’ publications, podcasts and drop-ins.

To develop your skills, you will receive training and guidance from your colleagues and attend in-house classes run by our award-winning economists.

Key tasks will include:

  • Working flexibly as part of a team to deliver high-quality economic analysis.
  • Contributing research, analysis and drafting to our bespoke client projects under the guidance of more experienced economists.
  • Participating in client meetings as part of the ongoing delivery of project work.
  • ·Providing input into client proposals to assist with developing new business opportunities.

Requirements:

  • A strong undergraduate degree in economics, econometrics or a closely related subject, preferably followed by an economics-based post-graduate degree.
  • Thorough and grounded knowledge of economics and econometrics skills.
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills, intellectual curiosity and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent time-management, communication and team working skills.
  • Commitment to deliver high quality, accurate outputs while meeting all deadlines.
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and familiarity with Word and Outlook. Experience using either R, E-views, Stata or similar is desirable.
