Assistant Engineer- Service Contract

Duration: 30 Working Days
Location: Sulaymaniyah, with frequent travel to Duhok
Type of Contract: Short-term Service Contract

Report to: Climate Smart Engineer.

Purpose of the Role.
The Service Contracted Assistant Engineer will be responsible for assisting in supervising, monitoring, and ensuring the quality and timely implementation of construction and upgrading works for greenspace projects in Sulaymaniyah, with  travel to Duhok for site visits, coordination, and technical follow-up on an as-needed basis.

Work Schedule

A total of 30 working days (from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM) over the contract period, with daily presence on-site during active construction work and travel to Duhok will occur under extenuating circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day construction and upgrading activities for greenspaces to ensure compliance with technical specifications, environmental standards, and project timelines.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality of materials, and workmanship.
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and relevant stakeholders to resolve technical issues promptly.
• Ensure that all works adhere to agreed designs, Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and safety standards.
• Prepare detailed progress reports, including photographic documentation, for submission to the project manager.
• Verify contractors’ work against agreed deliverables before approval of payments.
• Provide technical guidance and recommendations to improve efficiency and quality.
• Monitor and document environmental and safety compliance at all sites.
• Liaise with local authorities and community representatives during site visits to ensure smooth implementation.
• Support the handover process by ensuring completion of snag lists and final quality checks.

Deliverables

• Daily supervision records and inspection reports.
• Weekly progress reports summarizing work status, challenges, and recommendations.
• Final completion and handover report with photographic evidence and quality assessment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in construction supervision, preferably in landscaping or greenspace projects.
• Knowledge of environmental and safety standards relevant to construction.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with contractors and stakeholders.
• Proficiency in report writing and use of MS Office applications.
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently between Sulaymaniyah and Duhok.
