Assistant Land Manager (Horticulture Focus)

Background:
The Churchville Nature Center is an environmental education center and nature preserve in Bucks County Pennsylvania. It is a part of the Bucks County Department of Recreation as its first nature center having been founded in 1964. The Friends of Churchville Nature Center (FoCNC) are a 501c3 educational non-profit who work alongside Bucks County operating the center.

Overview:
This is an entry level position that will work directly for the FoCNC Land Manager and assist them with the continued stewardship of the Churchville Nature Center Preserve. As a physical position, it will require a candidate who is not afraid to work outside and get dirty. Responsibilities will include performing general grounds and trails maintenance, performing habitat improvements, leading volunteers, and assisting with the further development of our native gardens and plant propagation program.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct habitat restorations and improvements
• Perform general grounds and trails maintenance
• Work with and supervise volunteers and volunteer groups as assigned
• Assist with gardening and garden maintenance, coordinate with garden volunteers
• Assist with plant propagation for gardens, grounds, and the annual wildflower sale
• Fill-in for Land Manager when needed
• Additional tasks as needed for the continued operation of CNC, including, but not limited to, assisting with live animal care, general facilities maintenance, and aiding with event preparation

Qualifications
• Candidates must be 18 or older. Have or be working towards a degree in environmental sciences or a suitably related field. No non-related fields of study will be considered. Position is for those seeking a career in this field.
• Experience with using power tools and landscaping equipment preferred
• Ability to lift 50lbs and walk on uneven terrain
• A basic knowledge of regional flora and fauna
• Friendly disposition and interest in working collaboratively with staff and volunteers

Hours & Pay:
• 24 hours a week; four, six-hour days
• Starting at $19.00/hr
• Required to work every other Saturday or Sunday
• Part-time staff may train to work as an educator for additional compensation
• Future expansion of the position is possible
