Position Purpose: Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana operates a high-volume, complex, onsite Drive Thru Food Pantry. It is a model for other hunger relief agencies, implementing best practices and innovative services designed to not just feed our neighbors, but maintain their dignity and respect. The Assistant Manager of Field Operations will assist the Manager of Field Operations in all operations, in a manner consistent with Gleaners approach to offering neighbors choices in food distribution models (on-demand curbside pickup, drive-thru, & any other method developed). Additionally, the Assistant Manager of Field Operations will be responsible for maintaining these operations when the Manager of Field Operations is absent or performing duties off-site. All responsibilities shall be consistent with Gleaners Food Bank’s mission to be a leader the fight against hunger.
Essential Functions:
Assist in managing all operations as the distributions are multi-faceted and fast-paced.
Maintain distribution operations in case of absence of Manager of Field Operations.
Treat all neighbors and volunteers with dignity, compassion and respect.
Work collaboratively with internal departments and external partners.
Ensure excellent customer service, including communications.
Serve as the secondary contact for Drive Thru Food Pantry.
Ensure compliance with all applicable Feeding America, Gleaners, government regulations, and health codes.
Train and supervise volunteers daily.
Assist in developing trainings for volunteers and/or partners.
Maintain all files in accordance with the agreed upon system.
Collect and provide data, analysis, reports, and information as needed.
Serve as a resource to Home Delivery, Gleaners2Go, and/or other field operations as needed.
Cross-train with other field operations staff as needed.
Promote and achieve a positive work environment.
Work collaboratively across departments in Gleaners organization to ensure the achievement of operational efficiencies.
Active participation in staff, departmental, or other meetings as requested.
Provide input for organizational communications, including story bank, newsletter, website content, etc.
Communicate and collaborate with Food Strategy Team to share information, data, and resources, which includes Voice of Our Neighbors initiative and future related initiatives.
Provide information for Feeding America’s Network Activity Report, biennial audit, fiscal year end audit, and/or other reports as needed.
Interface with other partners in the network to share best practices.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma/GED required.
Food Safety and Handling Certified, or ability to be certified.
One to three years of experience in supervision of employees or volunteers preferred.
One to two years of food pantry, retail or merchandising experience preferred.
Forklift certified, or ability to be certified.
Preferrable experience in ecommerce grocery delivery.
