Academic Staff Member – Assistant or Assistant Professor for the Department of Forest Management and Applied Geoinformatics

Research field: dendrometry, statistics, biometrics, forest management

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economics and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

Currently, the Department is developing the field of precision forestry, which synthesizes elements of forest management (FM) with a link to applied geoinformatics technologies, where modern geoinformatics technologies (GIT) play an important role. Precision forestry in the framework of GIT-based HCM is an approach with a number of multidisciplinary overlaps developing classical and non-contact methods of forest health survey, mathematical-statistical processing of biometric data, forest growth and production science and differentiated adaptive forest management.

What will be your job role?

  • implementation of educational activities in accredited study programmes
  • conducting lectures and tutorials, as well as field trips and field exercises
  • evaluating students in written and/or oral exercises and examinations
  • reviewing students’ final theses and providing expertise in the field of science
  • solving scientific and research tasks in the field of dendrometry, statistics, biometry, forest management
  • publication of research results in professional scientific journals, conferences and seminars

What are our requirements?

  • Master’s degree in forestry, landscape or natural sciences, Ph.D. degree (or actively studying) or higher scientific degree an advantage
  • broad practical and theoretical knowledge of dendrometry, biometry, forest management, statistics
  • ability to teach independently in Czech and English both in the classroom and in the field
  • ability to publish scientific papers in English, work with scientific texts (independently and in teams)
  • ability to supervise bachelor and diploma student theses
  • active knowledge of working in at least one data analysis software (e.g. R, Matlab, Statistica, etc.)
  • knowledge of working with Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) at a high level
  • ability to work in project teams (even international)
  • experience in preparing and solving scientific projects for national or international grant agencies

Job status: 1,0 (40 hodin týdně)

Expected start: September 2024 or by agreement
