The Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Forest Resources Management. The incumbent will teach undergraduate courses each fall and spring semester that relate to forest management and ecology. Teaching responsibilities include leading the team-taught capstone forest management planning course and other courses in restoration ecology, range ecology and management, fire science or other related areas. Teaching responsibilities will also include undergraduate and graduate level courses in the area of the candidate’s expertise. The incumbent is expected to develop a successful research program relating the management and ecology of forests and associated resources. Collaboration is critical for multidisciplinary work that addresses forest resources from various perspectives, including wildlife, human dimensions, forest recreation, timber, fire, watersheds, geospatial applications, urban forests, the wildland urban interface, and environmental resources. Obtaining extramural research funding, including an approved McIntire-Stennis project, mentoring graduate students, and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals are expected. The incumbent is also expected to collaborate with professionals and scientists outside the College. Outreach and service to the College, the University, the forestry profession, and the citizens of Texas are necessary.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in forest management, natural resources management, fire science, restoration ecology, forest ecology, or a closely related field. The degree must be completed prior to the date of employment, but ABD candidates are encouraged to apply. At least one degree must be in forestry. Interests in the scholarship of teaching and learning, service-based learning, internships, technology-assisted teaching, and related innovative and/or experiential learning activities that enhance student learning are encouraged.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position responsible for contributing significantly to Stephen F. Austin State University’s undergraduate and/or graduate programs through teaching, scholarship/creative accomplishment, and service. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair.
QUALIFICATIONS
Assistant Professor:
Terminal degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required. ABD candidates may be considered if Ph.D. is earned prior to start date.
The rank of Assistant Professor is held by an individual who demonstrates the capability to produce research/scholarly/creative accomplishments, teach effectively, and provide service to the academic and general communities.
Associate Professor:
Terminal degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required.
The rank of Associate Professor is held by an individual with a proven record of research/scholarly/creative accomplishments, effective teaching, and service to the academic and general communities. The individual must demonstrate excellence in teaching and excellence in either research/scholarly/creative accomplishments or in service. An individual should have held the rank of Assistant Professor for at least three years.
