The Department of Geological Sciences at New Mexico State University invites applications from field-based paleoclimatologists for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2024.  Candidates should have a PhD in Geological Sciences at the time of appointment with a focus in climatology and/or sedimentology.  The position is initially funded through a gift to NMSU.

Responsibilities include developing and teaching classes and labs in paleoclimate and climate-change for non-majors, majors, and graduate students.  The successful candidate will develop a dynamic research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students and will have full access to the Reynolds Field Station located in west-central New Mexico, near the town of Datil.  The Reynolds Field Station is excellent for hosting outreach and class activities, and it is strategically located near a range of geologic features including the Colorado Plateau, the Rio Grande rift, and the Malpais volcanic field.  Additional service to the department, university, and geologic community is required.

New Mexico State University is located in the southern Rio Grande rift with ample and easy access to many geologic phenomena. Our department is committed to excellence in field- and lab-based education and research, much of which focuses on tectonic systems of the Southwestern US.  The department offers programs leading to BS and MS degrees and is staffed with five research active faculty.  New Mexico State University is a Carnegie R2, Land Grant, NASA Space Grant, and Hispanic-Serving Institution.  We encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented groups and from individuals interested in working with underrepresented students.
