Position Description:
The McGill University Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time multi-organ transplant surgeon at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC), Glen Site. This is a Contract Academic Staff appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Surgery is a leader in academic medicine, our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The MUHC is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
The McGill University Multi-Organ Transplant and Donation Program is dedicated to the achievement of excellence in clinical transplant patient care, research, and education. The program includes kidney, pediatric kidney, pancreas, islet, and liver transplant. The program is nationally and internationally recognized for its leadership, initiatives, and innovations in the field.
Job Duties:
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include providing surgical care at the MUHC. The successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of surgeons. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in and develop an academic clinical practice at the MUHC and to participate actively in all clinical activities and share on call responsibilities for kidney, pancreas, and liver transplantation as well as organ donation from living and deceased donors.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Applicants must:
Hold a medical degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
Have completed subspecialty training in General Surgery and be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
Have completed at least a two-year accredited multi-organ transplant fellowship;
Minimally invasive surgical expertise, live donor expertise and pediatric transplant training as well as expertise in organ preservation techniques such as NRP and ex-vivo organ perfusion will be considered an asset;
Additional graduate training in the form of MSc, PhD, or a second year of clinical fellowship is strongly recommended for all surgical hires and will also be considered an asset;
Be committed to clinical excellence, research, and education;
Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
