Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,585 to £54,395, with potential progression once in post to £61,198Academic Development Programme – new Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme, at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.BackgroundThe role is to provide research assistance to Professor Suzanne Higgs on a range of projects relating to the psychobiology of appetite. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of the research process, from recruitment and testing through to data analysis and preparation of publications. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop related research projects and write grant applications. Previous experience of independently setting up and troubleshooting eating behaviour experiments is highly desirable.We are seeking a creative, thoughtful and collaborative colleague who will support the development and delivery of a new Distance Learning Postgraduate Mental Health Programme. Once the programme is established you would also support and develop your leadership skills in other education activities in the School of Psychology. We run a successful campus-based MSc in Programme in Mental Health, and we are adding a complementary distance-learning programme to our course portfolio.Our themes are: suicide and self-harm; early intervention and prevention; innovation in policy, systems, and services; justice, equalities, and capabilities; mental health data science and epidemiology; multidisciplinary approaches to the neuroscience of mental health.Role SummaryYou will contribute to a range of education-related activities. In addition you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.You will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of digital content in online programmes as well as on other campus-based programmes.Main DutiesEducationYou will contribute across the range of teaching and learning activities:
- contribute to leading curriculum development and/or renewal;
- adopt and manage approaches to teaching and learning that are best practice in the subject area or institution;
- advise others on aspects of learning, teaching and assessment;
- deliver (where appropriate to the discipline) specific professional programmes;
Management/AdministrationTo contribute to Departmental /School administration. This may include:
- contributing to the administration/management of teaching across the Department/School;
- where appropriate, leading and managing a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process (e.g., new programme or a recruitment drive);
- advising on personal development of colleagues and students;
- making a contribution to administrative activities within the University (e.g. appeals panels, working groups);
Person Specification
- Normally, a higher Degree relevant to the discipline area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications.
- Appropriate teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism.
