Position Summary
Whitworth University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies Program, housed in the Department of Biology. We are seeking an individual with a strong background in environmental science, with possible specialization in fisheries biology, wildlife ecology, or forestry. The position will begin teaching in the fall of 2025. The typical teaching load is 21 credits across fall, January, and spring terms. The successful candidate will bring their strengths to our welcoming community and contribute to the Whitworth mission.
Environmental Studies Program Overview
The environmental studies program draws on the expertise of faculty distributed throughout the academic disciplines at Whitworth to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to the study of the natural world. The program integrates insights from the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities and theology to develop students’ environmental literacy and competence, providing a holistic education that encourages thoughtful and informed care of the earth and its creatures. Core Responsibilities
The standard full-time teaching load is usually 21 credits. Key teaching duties include, but are not limited to, introductory ecology and evolution along with associated labs, introductory environmental science, and a field course in the candidate’s area of expertise. An ability to teach GIS and global change ecology is desirable. In addition, the position requires involvement in advising, university service, maintaining an active research agenda, and engaging in departmental activities.

Hiring range: $59,572 to $63,718
Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of assistant professor.
