Position description

Under general supervision from the departmental chair, the incumbent teaches courses as scheduled, cultivates a healthy teacher-student relationship, and engages the students in active learning. The incumbent will make recommendations regarding curriculum changes, text selection, and content revision. The instructor will perform administrative aspects of instruction in a timely manner.

  

 

Qualifications (Required and Preferred)

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in discipline with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Government or Master’s/Doctoral degree in any discipline with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Government. 

PREFERENCES
Dual-credit teaching experience. Previous classroom utilization of the Desire2Learn (D2L) Learning Management software. Two (2) years directly related full-time instructional work experience. Eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Economics in addition to Master’s or Doctoral degree is highly preferred.

  9. Attend conferences, workshops, or programs to enhance professional growth.
  10. Participate in academic/professional organizations.
  11. Develop and implement innovative course content based on current pedagogy.
  12. Evidence a willingness to incorporate new concepts and theories to enhance professional growth.
  13. Integrate a diverse set of perspectives and ideas into course curriculum.
  14. Demonstrate innovative thinking to problem solve within the classroom, the department, and the institution.
  15. Demonstrate respect and professionalism with supervisors, colleagues, and students.
  16. Fosters collegiality within the department.
  17. Evidence timely completion of administrative aspects of instructional responsibilities.
  18. Participate in evaluation, recommendation, development, and/or revision of department instruction/curriculum.
  19. Contribute to growth of the college by active involvement on task forces or committees.
  20. Demonstrate participation in activities that contribute to the growth of the community.
  21. Teach at Temple College centers if required.
  22. Perform other job-related duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of pedagogical practices relevant to discipline.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and departmental strategies.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate subject matter and the application of the subject matter for the respective discipline.

  • Possess effective communication skills.
  • Presentation skills.

ABILITIES

  • Ability to provide effective teaching and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Ability to engage students in the learning process.

  • Ability to incorporate active learning strategies into classroom instruction. 

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Primarily light physical activity is required with occasional lifting and manipulation of objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Keyboarding and computer use. Use of audio/visual devices.
