Assistant Professor of Biological Anthropology, College of Liberal Arts [R0139777]
ROLE of the POSITION
The Anthropology Department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology beginning fall semester 2024.
Applicants must have expertise in both bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology. We are searching for an anthropologically grounded biological anthropologist.
We require that the candidate demonstrate an active research program in bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology. Candidates research interests should complement but not duplicate those of current departmental members. The candidates research agenda in bioarchaeology or skeletal biology should be demonstrated by funding, publications, presentations, and projects. Forensic anthropological expertise should be evident by means of previous forensic anthropological casework, demonstrating an ability to apply osteological and forensic skills to law enforcement cases (e.g., forensic casework, field recovery, authoring case reports, expert witness). The successful candidate will be able to teach a 2-2 course load of introductory courses in biological anthropology, elective undergraduate courses, and graduate courses in areas of specialization.
The successful candidate should be willing to assist in
supervising/overseeing
forensic anthropology casework for southern Nevada at the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with a plan of action to recruit and mentor graduate students in the departments MA and PhD program and to those who have a plan for obtaining external funding for research. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires
a Ph.D. from
an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and must be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to candidates with active bioarcheological field programs and complementary laboratory research for the integration and training of students. The department seeks candidates who plan to actively pursue board certification with the American Board of Forensic Anthropology (ABFA).
