The University of Montana Psychology Department requests applications for a tenure track appointment as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Indigenous health and wellness. Candidates must possess a depth of knowledge, scholarship, and applied clinical experience related to Indigenous health and wellness, Indigenous health care systems (e.g., IHS), and work with justice-involved populations. Experience with the development and implementation of clinical and educational training programs for advanced doctoral students in psychology is strongly preferred. The faculty member would serve in a leadership role for the Department’s Indians into Psychology (InPsych) program, an initiative funded, in part, through a competitive cooperative agreement between the Psychology Department and the US Indian Health Service (IHS). This position will begin in August 2024. 

Responsibilities include the following: 1) Teaching undergraduate and graduate Psychology courses, including courses in multicultural psychology and Indigenous ways of knowing; 2) Conducting original research; 3) Supervising graduate student research and clinical work; 4) Mentoring Indigenous students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; 5) Relationship building with Montana Tribal communities and Tribal Colleges and Universities; and 6) Developing and implementing a Summer Program for Indigenous students to nurture interest in mental/behavioral health professions. 

Required Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of Indigenous health and wellness
• Demonstrate a record of relevant scholarship and service
• Experience working clinically with Montana Tribal community members 
• Applicants must possess a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology
• Must be eligible for licensure as a psychologist in Montana

Preferred Qualifications

• First-hand experience with Section 217 scholarships funded by the IHS American Indians into Psychology Program
• Three or more years clinical experience as a psychologist in an IHS mental/behavioral or integrated health care setting

Schedule: Full time academic year position beginning fall semester 2024

Entry Rate: Salary commensurate with experiences and regionally competitive
