Rogers State University is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of History & Political Science. This position requires teaching public administration and political science electives, and a general education course (e.g. American Federal Government), at the undergraduate level through different modalities including face-to-face, blended, and online. A successful candidate is expected to coordinate the public administration option of the bachelor’s degree in political science, the public administration minor, help recruit and vet adjunct instructors for public administration coursework, and explore the feasibility of developing a master’s degree in public administration (MPA). PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teach POLS 1113 American Federal Government and recruit political science majors. Teach public administration elective courses using a variety of modalities, including on-ground (at the main or satellite campuses), blended, and online. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to expand their instructional competency to better serve the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree.
- Advise majors in the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program.
- Contribute to Rogers State University’s liberal arts mission to ‘ensure students develop the skills and knowledge required to achieve professional and personal goals in dynamic local and global communities.’
- Prioritize excellence in classroom instruction and demonstrate the desire and ability to engage with and guide students in their intellectual development.
- Actively participate in departmental and University service, including committee work.
- Maintain an active research agenda, and at minimum stay abreast of developments in the field of political science.
- Effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications
- RSU is a teaching institution. Priority is placed on excellence in instruction in a variety of modalities, including on-ground, blended, and online formats.
- Engage with and recruit students into the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree.
- Work in an effective and collegial manner with staff, departmental colleagues, and other university staff.
- Practical experience in fields related to public administration will strengthen candidates’ applications.
- Proven grant writing skills and/or ability to teach select international relations courses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Such candidates who also have experience in fields related to public administration (e.g. state or local government or nonprofit organization) will be strongly considered.
- At minimum, candidates should have earned a master’s degree in public administration (MPA preferred).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A doctoral degree in political science with a concentration in public administration is preferred.
- ABD’s will be considered but need an imminent dissertation defense date.
- Additional areas of concentration (esp. American Government, political theory, international relations, etc.) will be considered.

SUPERVISION GIVEN TO: Administrative Assistant and student worker(s)
HOURS: Monday-Friday 8:00AM to 5:00 PM Possibility of evening hours.
POSITION: FLSA Exempt
