Eckerd College Waterfront Campus

The Marine Science Program at Eckerd College invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level to start September 2024. A Ph.D. in Oceanography, Marine Science, or related field is required. We seek broadly-trained scientist-educators who are strongly committed to teaching and student/faculty research at the undergraduate level. Although the area of expertise is flexible, preference will be given to applicants with research applying molecular biological methods (e.g., cellular biology and genetics) to the study of marine organisms. Fields of particular interest include seagrasses, macroalgae, invasive species, harmful algal blooms, and microbes. The teaching component consists of seven courses per year in a 3-1-3 format. Teaching responsibilities will include contribution to the delivery of our regular introductory-level course in Biological Oceanography and an upper-level required course in Marine and Freshwater Botany or Marine Invertebrate Biology, as well as a course in the applicant’s area of expertise. Additionally, participation in an interdisciplinary, values-oriented general education program is required, including regular rotation in two Common Core courses and a first-year seminar program. Eckerd College, the only independent national liberal arts college in Florida, has a tradition of innovative education and teaching/mentoring excellence. The successful applicant will be expected to secure external funding to establish an active research program that is accessible to undergraduate students and complements existing departmental strengths. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a well-developed plan for establishing a long-term student/faculty research program that complements existing student/faculty programs in the biological and/or geological sciences. Employment will require a successful background check.
