Position Description

West Virginia State University’s Department of History and Political Science is seeking a candidate for a full-time, benefits eligible faculty position to serve as an Assistant Professor with shared responsibility for the undergraduate political science program and graduate level public administration program.

This position will start in the Fall 2024 Academic Year

Responsibilities for the Assistant Professor of Political Science

The Assistant Professor position is a 9-month tenure track appointment. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate students on campus and occasionally online; developing new courses; conducting research, with the expectation of obtaining external funding and publishing research in peer-reviewed journals; involving students in research; collecting and analyzing assessment data for both general education and the political science undergraduate programs as well as the graduate program in public administration, and participating in appropriate service activities.

The successful candidate must be willing and able to teach courses within the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program including upper division courses in American Government and Institutions, and a selection of courses within the Master of Public Administration program. Candidates should have a commitment to excellent teaching, professional development, and service, including participation in student advising, mentoring, and recruitment and retention activities. Candidates will also serve the department with community engagement through grant-writing and administration of community and student based programs at WVSU. All positions are subject to availability of funding.

Requirements for the Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration

Earned doctorate in political science or public administration

Experience conducting research within the candidate’s field of interest

Experience teaching at the university level.

Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion

Salary Statement
