Job Summary: 

The psychology department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Marist College invites applications for a tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Psychology to begin the fall of 2024.

We welcome candidates who specialize in cognitive neuroscience. The psychology department is interested in providing students with opportunities to understand the application of biological and neuroscience principles to human thought, emotion, and behavior. We are particularly interested in candidates who conduct research using ERP or fNIRS methodologies, as new psychology lab facilities are currently being built with this in mind.

Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses within their areas of expertise as well as research methods and statistics. We welcome candidates who will place an emphasis on quality teaching in a small classroom setting and who can expertly integrate relevant sociocultural and diversity content and issues into their teaching. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to develop and teach topical, hands-on laboratory courses in a small, liberal arts college setting. The expected course load for our faculty is 21 credits, usually a 3:4 course load, or a 3:3 course load if teaching multiple lab courses. Applicants should be engaged in ongoing research activities and enthusiastic about working to support undergraduate students’ research projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Doctorate in Psychology or a related field by Fall 2024 is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Primarily, instruction of undergraduate students with an expectation of competence in the use of instructional technology
  • Ongoing research and mentorship of undergraduate research
  • Advisement of undergraduate students
  • Participation in departmental activities

Preferred Qualifications:

College level teaching experience is preferred.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School:

The psychology department is home to 14 full-time faculty as well as several, valued, part-time faculty. The department offers an undergraduate psychology major and minor and supports graduate programs in clinical mental health counseling and school psychology. The department members have expertise in many domains and work together to create a rich curricular experience for students that includes theory, research, and applied fieldwork.
