Position description

Gardner-Webb University seeks a qualified, broadly trained individual to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of International Relations and/or Comparative Politics in Political Science and International Affairs and Sociology programs in the Department of Social Sciences at the main campus in Boiling Springs, North Carolina to begin ideally in January 2025 (or August 2025). The successful candidate is expected to provide support and leadership in the on-going growth and rollout of the political science program. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Applicants must hold an advanced degree in political science, with a focus on/concentration in international relations and/or comparative politics and/or Sociology. Candidates must be qualified to teach courses in political science and sociology. 
  • Traditional or Graduate level teaching and mentoring experience with a record of established success with students. Teaching experience in these discipline areas is preferred.
  • The candidate must be willing to conduct research in the field or related discipline. Professional development is an expectation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community outreach and engagement, as is expected of faculty at GWU.
  • A track record that demonstrates exceptional organization, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal relations and the ability to effectively manage undergraduate programs.
  • A deep commitment to diversity and inclusion demonstrated through pedagogy, research, and/or public engagement is a plus.

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Additional preference given to candidates who are interested in and/or have experience leading Model UN. A once thriving program, we are seeking the re-launch and re-invigoration of Model UN. 

 Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrated commitment to Christian Higher Education.
  • Teach at the undergraduate level which could include courses in international politics, comparative politics, and sociology courses.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to students in undergraduate programs.
  • Contribute to the on-going accreditation, assessment, and evaluation processes.
  • Participate in faculty committees and business of the university as requested.
  • Attend monthly department, college, and university faculty meetings.
  • Participate in the recruitment of students through university sponsored events.
  • Establish relationships with university partners.
