Primary Purpose | PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Assistant Professor/Program Director of Fire Science provides instruction to students in the Fire Science program, directs student discussion and evaluates student performance in the classroom. In addition, this position develops curriculum, assesses student learning, and provides student advising. PROGRAM DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities of the program director include college and department commitments as well as community connections. The program director is hired based on the needs of the program, department, and College and in alignment with the needs of the profession/industry 1 . Relationships between the professional community and the college program are critical to the success of the program in our region and throughout the state. Overall, the program director is trusted to help develop, guide, and lead the program to ensure alignment between the College’s mission and vision and the professional community’s expectations of excellence. The following areas highlight responsibilities of all program directors: 1. Overall program development. 2. Program policies, practices, and expectations. 3. Program handbook. 4. Course scheduling. 5. Supporting program faculty. 6. Student recruitment. 7. Student retention and tracking. 8. Academic advising. 9. Curriculum development. 10. Program Advisory Board meetings. 11. Building and maintaining community partnerships. 12. Collaboration with Department Chairs. 13. Equipment, lab, and dedicated learning environment maintenance 14. Experiential learning. 15. Certificate alignment. 16. Accreditation. 17. Other CTE duties as assigned. 1 A note about terms. Ergonomic Requirements | Individuals must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work on the fire ground and with fire apparatus and equipment. Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. |
