The Department of Cancer Biology and Pharmacology of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) is now inviting applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor level positions to expand its research programs in translational cancer research. Early career investigators with outstanding training and a strong track record of scholarly productivity in cancer research, with an uncompromised commitment to a culture that is conducive to collaborative interdisciplinary research and to the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion, and a genuine interest in contributing to the educational mission of the medical school are highly encouraged to apply. The selected candidates will be expected to develop a vibrant and highly interactive research program, to aggressively seek federal funding, and to teach our medical students. A competitive startup package will be offered to the selected candidates to support the development of a stellar federally funded research program.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O./Ph.D. in translational research in cancer, with at least 3 years of postdoctoral training in cancer research and a solid record of scholarly productivity, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, fellowship and/or grant awards, and participation in national and international conferences.
Position Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
Administrative
- In partnership with the Chair of the Department of Cancer Biology and Pharmacology, develop a comprehensive strategy for funding, and sustained growth of a stellar research program in cancer research.
- In partnership with the department business manager, manage and oversee the financial aspects of their research program.
- Seek intellectually synergistic interdisciplinary collaborations within the department and across campus.
- Embrace a culture of collaboration and kinship that is conducive to overall success of all faculty in the department.
- Serve on appropriate administrative committees at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
- Seek to contribute to the advancement of the DEI mission of our college.
- Perform other duties as assigned, and appropriate to the advancement of the department’s mission.
Research
- Develop a vibrant and interactive research program in cancer.
- Organize, direct, conduct and collaborate in a research program that complements and enhances ongoing research at UICOMP.
- Aggressively seek federal funding.
Teaching
- Participate in the education and research training of medical students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Participate in the Research Seminar Series and in the Research Forum Discussion of the Department of Cancer Biology and Pharmacology.
- Prepare and deliver lectures to medical students as assigned.
- Serve on appropriate educational committees at the College of Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O./Ph.D. in translational research in cancer
- At least 3 years of postdoctoral training in cancer research
- Documented training and experience in cancer research
- Solid record of scholarly productivity in cancer research, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, fellowship and/or grant awards, and participation in national and international conferences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current federal funding
- Master’s in computer science and training in bioinformatics
