POSITION TITLE: Assistant Project Manager and Permit Coordination
LOCATION: RCDSMM Office – 4505 Las Virgenes Rd., Suite 215, Calabasas, CA 91302 and Topanga Lagoon
HOURS: Part – Time (Between 20-30 hours per week)
This position is funded for a minimum of 2.5 years with potential extension and growth opportunities within the RCD.

The RCDSMM is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, self-motivated biologist/ restoration manager to help manage overall project design, grant scheduling, invoicing, reporting, and prepare/coordinate permit applications for the Topanga Lagoon Restoration Project through at least December 2026.
This job will be supervised by the Senior Conservation Biologist.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

  • Assist the Project Manager with implementing the scope of work, permit coordination, meeting scheduling, contractor management, grant management and invoicing taking the Topanga Lagoon Restoration project from conceptual through 90% design and permitting and other tasks as directed by supervisor.
  • Represent the RCDSMM at public meetings and events, including some evenings and weekends (as needed).
  • Coordinate with the National Park Service, State Parks, CDFW, NMFS, USFWS and other resource agencies.
  • In-office presence required 1-2 days/week, flexible schedule coordinated with supervisor.
  • Complete other tasks as identified by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Minimum of Master’s of Science (or equivalent experience) in Biology, Ecology, or related field preferred.

  • At least 3 years’ experience managing restoration projects and grants.
  • Experience preparing and coordinating regulatory permit applications (see list below) and supervising implementation of permit compliance monitoring.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Fluent with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience with invoicing, tracking grant budgets, and supervising contractors.
  • Experience conducting in-field work for regulatory compliance (for example CRAM, JD, etc.).
  • Flexible to work on an as-needed basis (nights, weekends) in addition to scheduled projects.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Current driver’s license with reliable transportation to the RCD office (Calabasas) and various locations within the Santa Monica Mountains.
    • Must live within 1 hour driving distance of the RCD office (accounting for weekday traffic).

COMPENSATION: Hourly rate ranges between $35-45 per hour, depending on skills and experience, plus an 8% health stipend, subject to deductions for taxes and other withholdings as required by law orthe policies of the RCD.

BENEFITS: Current benefits, in addition to the health stipend, include participation in CalPERS state retirement system, an optional 457 plan for retirement savings (the RCD does not contribute; your contributions are pre-tax), 12 days of sick time a year, at least 2 weeks of vacation or more depending on your years of service, and 13 paid holidays per year.
