Salary: $99,803.00 – $116,404.00 Annually 
To allow for growth and salary progression the full salary range is:
$99,803.00 – $122,531.00 Annually 

Positions with permanent duty stations in King County receive an additional 5% added to their monthly base salary. The salary listed in this announcement reflects the additional 5%.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking an Assistant Region Manager (ARM) Wildfire, Forest Regulation, Forest Resiliency and Camps – WMS2 within our South Puget Sound Region.

Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the efficient and effective administration of the wildfire, correctional camps, service forestry, and forest practices organizational units in the South Puget Sound Region Ensures all programs are implemented in accordance with state laws and department policies and principles. The focus of the position is on managing and strategic planning while maintaining an appropriate level of tactical involvement. The following specific programs are administered by this position:

  • Wildfire: administration of forest wildfire preparedness, fire suppression, prevention, education, and regulation.
  • Correctional Camps: administration of DNR’s programs based at the Cedar Creek Correctional Camp
  • Forest Resiliency: administration of DNR’s Service Forestry program.
  • Regulation: administration, education, compliance, and enforcement of the Forest Practice Act

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Forest Management or Natural Resources Management; AND eight years of professional-level experience with a demonstrated progression in leadership responsibilities in the areas of land and resources management, personnel management, and wildland fire suppression;
    OR an associate degree in forest management or natural resources management; AND ten years of professional-level experience with a demonstrated progression in leadership responsibilities in the areas of land and resources management, personnel management, and wildland fire suppression.
  • Skills in oral and written communication.
  • Skills in assessing training needs.
  • Key Knowledge and Skills, Forestry and Fire:
    • Knowledge of forest management objectives, timber management planning, and silvicultural principles
    • Knowledge of Washington Forest Practices and Forest Protection rules, laws and practices, and associated agency policies
    • Knowledge of logging and forest road construction practices
    • Knowledge of wildland fire prevention and suppression practices and tactics
    • Skills in managing complex fire incidents.
