Are you passionate about preserving Cornwall’s natural habitats? Do you have experience in
habitat management and a commitment to wildlife conservation? Due to internal progression we’re looking for two dedicated individuals to join our team as an  Assistant Reserves Officer.


As part of the Reserves Team, you will assist with the day-to-day running of our
Reserves across Cornwall, through practical work, volunteer tasks, management planning and
monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Reserves Team with on-site management of our nature
    reserves, including habitat and estate management, biological monitoring, and health and safety
    initiatives.
  • Support our volunteer trainees in practical reserves management.
  • Assistance with the management of Trust livestock and monitoring of licensed grazing
    programs.
  • An understanding of reserves’ management objectives.
  • Maintenance and oversight of tools and equipment.
  • Adherence to the Trust’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in a countryside environment.
  • Experience of maintaining high safety standards.
  • Experience of Problem solving in the field.
  • Knowledge of principles of habitat management for wildlife.
  • Basic knowledge of and interest in British wildlife.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Experience of machinery maintenance.
  • QCF level 2 and 3 chainsaw certification or equivalent*
  • Knowledge of conservation grazing systems.
  • Identification skills for common biotic groups.
  • First aid at work Forestry plus qualification *
  • Due to the remote location of our Nature Reserves, a current UK-valid driving licence is
    essential.

*Certain certifications, if not already held by the successful candidate, must be obtained
within six months of starting the position. The appointed candidate will receive appropriate
training and have two opportunities to successfully fulfil the required assessments. This
training and assessment process will occur within the initial six months of employment, or a
longer period if agreed upon by the Trust.

The role is a permanent, full time post working 37.5 hours per week.
