Assistant Volunteer Coordinator

The Assistant Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the Education Team. This position will orient, recruit, mentor, train and evaluate aquarium volunteers, with a focus on Education volunteers. This position will be responsible for scheduling volunteers in various areas of the aquarium, including interpreting at touch pools and education carts. This position will be responsible for covering these stations if volunteer coverage is not available. Our volunteer team is mostly comprised of high school and college students and retirees.

In the absence of the Volunteer Coordinator, the Assistant will act as the main support for volunteers, including answering volunteer questions, taking phone calls, attending off-site events and checking emails. This position will actively work with other aquarium departments and outside organizations to ensure quality services in support of the education team and volunteer program.

Applicants must have excellent communication skills, be articulate, enthusiastic and have a strong work ethic. Prior experience working with the public, flexibility and the ability to work well with others is required. Applicants must be able to lift at least 15 pounds. Applicants will be expected to be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
