A full time Assistant Warden is required to join the team and help deliver our busy work
programme across the RSPB Humber Reserves holding (currently 1600ha of land around the wider
estuary). Applicants must be able to demonstrate some previous experience of working on
reserves or similar and ideally be trained in the use of brushcutters, tractors and use of
handheld sprayers. This role will also include working on some weekend days and occasionally
involve face-to-face visitor work.
The role will be varied, covering a wide range of tasks, so you’ll need to be energetic,
adaptable, and have the desire to achieve. You’ll work as part of a team to assist in
delivering a wide range of operations such as reedcutting, agricultural field operations,
estate maintenance and biological survey work, while you will also be expected to engage
positively with a wide range of stakeholders and help manage our amazing volunteer team.
It is important that you are a strong team player, with the ability to generate ideas and see
them through to high standards. You’ll have a passion for natural history, and you’ll enjoy
working outside in all weathers.
You’ll be organised, responsible, resilient, adaptable, practically capable and you’ll set
yourself high standards. You’ll have plenty of energy and be keen to learn and develop as part
of your role. Undertaking Training will be an essential part of your development and will be
provided as required to help you to fulfil your full potential.
What we need from you:
Essentials:
- You will have knowledge and experience of practical habitat and estate management.
- You will have a proven track record of working of completing work alone and working within
a varied team. - Comfortable managing volunteers from a range of backgrounds
- Reasonable birdwatching knowledge and experience of biological surveys
- Be willing to assist with predator control to benefit ground nesting birds
- Full manual driving licence (or ability to access remote locations without public
transport)
Desirables:
- Lantra or equivalent qualification in using equipment such as brushcutter and tractor,
PA1/6 pesticides. - Knowledge of servicing and maintaining vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment to agreed
standards. - Experience of staff or volunteer recruitment and line management.
- Implementing and updating health and safety records and assessments.
Additional information:
- This role will involve lone working and working in remote locations.
- This role will require occasional weekend, early morning and evening working so will need
someone who is able to be flexible.
This is a Permanent role for 37.5 hours per week.
