Salary: £23,115 – £24,140 per annum
Location:
Basingstoke Canal Visitor Centre, Aldershot
Contract type: Temporary for 2 years
Closing date: 19 August 2024.
Interview date: w/c 2 September 2024.

Are you passionate about our inland waterways and the outdoors?

The Role:

This is a great opportunity to join our small team on the beautiful Basingstoke Canal. We are looking
for well organised self-starters with great communication skills.

This is a chance to develop and widen your range of site management and practical skills on a
distinctly ‘different’ countryside and heritage site renowned for its Odonata and aquatic
plants.

The 32-mile-long Basingstoke Canal is a largely tree lined and tranquil waterway providing an
important recreational resource both on the towpath and on the water. Crossing the Hampshire
and Surrey borders, it is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. With 29 Locks and
numerous bridges, structures and embankments, the 200-year-old waterway, demands constant
attention. You will be at the forefront of this, joining a team to manage the water, boating,
conservation, recreation, and safety.

In order to assist the right person, we will offer extensive in-house training to undertake the
basics of the role and fund formal training, providing you with industry recognised
qualifications including:

  • Boat handling
  • First Aid at work
  • Maintenance and use of strimmers and brushcutters
  • Maintenance and use of a chainsaw including the felling of small trees
  • Basic tree inspection
  • Pedestrian and ride on mowers.

Comprehensive uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided to see you
through all seasons.

This post will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays on a rota basis.

What We Can Offer You:

We offer a flexible, motivating and inclusive workplace, where talent is truly recognised and
developed. We have created an environment that you can look forward to being a part of and
where you are empowered to be your best and believe in creating a workplace built on teamwork
where people can grow and develop in their roles.
