About the Role

The School of Engineering and Material Science (SEMS) is seeking to appoint a Assistant Workshop Technician. SEMS is a large School with circa 80 academics and around 50 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1500 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 180 PhD students on the London campus. These are supported by an administrative and technical staff of circa 45. The workshop facilities are a core resource for multiple schools. The post holder will work as part of a mechanical workshop team to support research and teaching programmes.

About You

You should have:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A-C including in English and Mathematics
  • City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering Technician Certificate or equivalent technical education
  • Ability to support the day-to-day running of a busy workshop with a high throughput of students
  • Previous experience in the workshop environment

About the School

This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with approximately 75 academic staff and 200 PhD students and 45 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1200 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and 220 PhD students. Circa 40 administrative and technical staff support the staff and students. The staff and student body are international in make-up. The School holds a departmental-level Bronze Athena SWAN award and is committed to equality of opportunity.
