About the organization:

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data organization (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information, conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

ACLED is recruiting a full-time Associate Analysis Manager to join our Analysis team. The employee will report to the Head of Analysis.

The successful candidate will carry out the following activities as part of the Analysis team:

The Associate Analysis Manager will be responsible for the following tasks:

Project Management

  • Execute the day-to-day tasks involved in implementing the organization’s strategic priorities and goals for the Analysis team
  • Ensure project deliverables and outputs are completed in accordance with the agreed deadlines and quality standards
  • Develop systems for effective coordination across departments to ensure the harmonious completion of projects
  • Engage with partners involved in the development of deliverables
  • Develop project plans in accordance with the PRINCE2 method, ensuring ACLED’s continued innovation and sustainability
  • Manage team members working on Analysis-led projects and observatories
  • Provide regular updates and reporting to the Head of Analysis and Executive Leadership
  • Collaborate with other departments as necessary to ensure project’s success

Research

  • Manage content production across projects
  • Manage analysis outputs, including assigning, reviewing, and editing pieces produced within observatories and special projects, in accordance with existing editing, style, and content guidelines
  • Contribute to the writing and editing of original analysis outputs
  • Make contributions to thematic, global, or region-specific outputs, as required by the Head of Analysis
  • Support the continued innovation and value of ACLED analysis

Outreach

  • Provide expert commentary and analysis for outputs produced by the External Affairs team
  • Provide expert advice to donors and stakeholders in collaboration with the Grants & Development team
  • Identify and seek opportunities for stakeholder and donor briefings and conferences
  • Engage with media organizations and provide commentary upon request
  • Contribute to data analysis and visualization training for partners
  • Contribute to ACLED’s data literacy program
  • Collaborate with other teams, including Operations and Finance, to ensure due diligence and reporting

Other

  • Take part in and contribute to ACLED internal meetings
  • Assist the Head of Analysis and Analysis Manager upon request
  • Other administrative, coordination, and communications tasks as required

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science/Social Sciences/Geography/Sociology focused on conflict studies or equivalent required, PhD preferred
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience working within a research environment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple projects in a research or development environment is required; PRINCE2 / PMP certification or equivalent is preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and produce high-quality results in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Good judgment and extremely high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience working in outreach, external engagement, and donor management is desirable
