  • Have you ever wanted to get exposure to a leadership role or join a Board?
  • Do you want to know how a Board works?
  • Do you want to help to shape the outcomes of future generations and build a better future?

Yes?  Then we want to hear from you!

Who We Are

At UWE Bristol we are proud to be a modern civic university – located in one of the UK’s most exciting cities. We are driving change in the way we learn, analyse and contribute to the world we live in.

Through our education, research and enterprise, we are powering the future workforce, boosting the economy, improving the health and sustainability of our communities and creating solutions to global challenges.

Inclusivity and the student experience sit at the heart of everything we do and in 2021 we introduced a new role of Associate Board Member on our Board. This role has been hugely valuable in enhancing the diversity of perspectives around the table. We are now recruiting for a new Associate Board Member so we can continue to listen, learn and offer this important opportunity for early career professionals.

Who You Are

We have a wealth of skills and experience around our Board table, including the fresh perspective that would be brought by someone like you: early career, with an understanding of what it’s like to have recently been a student or to have started out in a career, and the journey that these then lead to.

We want someone who shares our belief in social mobility and inclusivity, who can advocate for opportunity and who can help us to provide a genuinely powerful and transformative education. Because that’s what we do: we transform futures.

What We’ll Do for You

We know that opportunities to participate at this level of a large and complex organisation don’t often come along early in our careers. We’ll provide that experience. We’ll give you a real opportunity to be instrumental in the academic success of our next generation of students and the success of our region.

We know that those who are in their early careers have important things to say.  We’ll listen.  You’ll have a key role in shaping the future of one of the region’s most significant institutions – leading the charge for better across our communities.

We’ll support you throughout the next step of your journey with us, starting with a tailored induction and development opportunities along the way.  One of our experienced Board Members will be a mentor to you the whole time that you’re part of our team.

Details

The Associate Board Member position is appointed on a term of office of a year that will provide you with a much greater understanding of Higher Education governance, the workings of a Board, and valuable skills and networks for the future.

Whilst Members of the Board of Governors are not remunerated, reasonable expenses are paid, and relevant training and development costs are covered.

The Associate Board Member role is an exciting part of the University’s continued drive to enhance diversity and inclusivity.  We passionately believe that diversity of thought, skills and experience will lead to a stronger University.

If you share our passion for the potential of Higher Education and research, for innovation and enterprise, and can help us strengthen our connections with students, alumni, regional communities, and employers, get in touch.

If you share our vision for positive change, are an ambitious strategic thinker, and are looking to channel your energy and enthusiasm through the development of Board experience, we want to hear from you.

We are driven by excellence in all we do and are looking for excellent individuals whatever their background and we positively encourage and particularly welcome applications from groups that are under-represented. This includes but is not restricted to those of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background, LGBTQ+, Disabled People and any other groups facing disadvantage and discrimination.
