Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the Chief (OoC) of the Secretariat to the Governing Bodies (SGB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will perform the following specific tasks: • Support the preparations for and conduct of the Fifteenth UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, to be held in 2026, and the regional preparatory meetings, to be held in 2025; • Prepare or support preparation of parliamentary documentation related to the Congress and its regional preparatory meetings; • Support the organization and conduct of planning missions to the Host Country (United Arab Emirates) to finalize the requirements for Fifteenth Congress; • Support the organization of negotiations of a draft outcome document of the Congress; • Conduct research and prepare a variety of written outputs in relation to the Congress, including briefing notes, background papers and presentations; • Review and approve individual experts in the field of crime prevention and the treatment of offenders, registering to participate in the Congress as observers; • Support the organization of awareness raising activities and briefings to Member States and other stakeholders in the margins of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly; • Liaise with other parts of the UNODC crime programme with regard to their contributions to the preparations for the Congress; • Liaise with the host country, Member States, UN agencies and other stakeholders in the preparatory process for the Congress; • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting; • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, law, economics, political science or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programmes in data analytics, business analytics or data science degree programmes is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in international or national work related to crime prevention and criminal justice, or in a relevant occupational group or the successful completion of the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP)/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required. Professional experience in crime prevention and criminal justice related issues is desirable. Experience in contributing to intergovernmental processes and servicing intergovernmental bodies is desirable. Experience in drafting UN pre-session documentation, project reports and official communication products is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise and a competency-based interview.
Special Notice
• This position is temporarily available for a period of 6 months. Actual filling of this position and actual duration of the assignment is subject to availability of funding. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. • While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. • Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply.
