The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a part-time Associate who can provide administrative assistance in our fundraising and outreach efforts in Australia. The Australia Devlopment Team serves as an important base for HRW’s development, fundraising, and outreach efforts across Australia, largely characterised by a full schedule of donor cultivation and fundraising events. The team is dedicated to defend the humanity’s most fundamental values and galvanise the community of supporters to make an impact on people’s lives.
This position is hybrid and part-time at 20 hours per week and requires availability to work occasional evenings, including internal global meetings and special events. The successful candidate can work remotely or from the office but will be expected to work from the Sydney office twice a week. The Associate reports to the Associate Director Development and Outreach.
Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to the Australia Development team, including:
- Provide development and fundraising support including tracking and updating gift information, invoicing and receipting, and implementing a timely donor acknowledgement and recognition;
- Provide logistical support for annual dinners, receptions, committee meetings, briefings, virtual events and other offline events;
- Management and reconciliation of all Australia income in HRW donor database (Salesforce). Support and monitor communications with the Finance Division and the Operations Division on all queries relating to gifts; and the Australia bank account;
- Maintain the donor databases by updating records and information; generating financial reports, donor analytics, lists and queries; optimising data collection; overseeing data entry for special events; ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the data;
- Input and track all expenses for the Development and Outreach team in Sydney and Melbourne;
- Support the annual Australia office audit; ensuring gift documentation is filed and stored accurately; corresponding with donors to ensure files are kept up to date;
- Assist with the recruitment of interns and volunteers; and
- Carry out other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree or a related field or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to work independently as well as function as a member of a highly collaborative, fast-paced team with staff in multiple locations globally.
- Demonstrated experience with data and financial management and analysis, office/administration and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated advanced experience using Excel and CRM databases (Salesforce preferred). Proficiency in additional computer programs including MS Office applications, such as Power Point and Word; and Outlook. Experience using PowerBI and other client databases; and project management tools are highly desirable.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.
- Strong commitment to human rights and/or international issues is preferred.
- Familiarity with fundraising and philanthropy landscape in Australia and APAC is preferred.
