The Opportunity:

The Associate Director, Cleanroom provides oversight of the Nanofabrication Cleanroom Facilities, consisting of three centralized cleanrooms in the College of Optics and Photonics (COP), the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), and the College of Sciences (COS). Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Research & Scholarship, this position also works closely with a faculty advisory committee representing the three colleges.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall operations management of the three shared cleanroom facilities and advanced planning for the expansion (both building and facilities and equipment). Plan for expansion of tool sets, purchase orders, and installation.

  • Supervise the cleanroom technical staff daily, and provide strategy and direction for maintaining smooth operations.

  • Supervise the training of new users (researchers, faculty, students) and ensure that operation and safety procedures are enforced.

  • Ensure the cleanroom tools are maintained regularly and repaired appropriately for safety and the smoothest possible operation. When necessary, assist staff with guidance on the maintenance and repair of the tools which includes specialty knowledge of lithography, deposition, dry etching, and other processing tools.

  • Write and submit proposals for tool acquisition from the federal and state governments, as well as private institutions.

  • Initiate efforts to make the facilities more centralized and accessible with uniform policies and procedures.

  • Interact with faculty, students, and external users to address their research needs. Interact and build relationships with other university and industrial cleanroom facilities to form alliances and partnerships for advanced training and research exchange programs.

  • Report and coordinate with the faculty committee that oversees the cleanroom operation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree from an accredited institution in electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, optics and photonics, physics, or other closely related disciplines that involve cleanroom usage.

  • Applicants are preferred to have research experience and have worked for at least three years in a cleanroom facility for microelectronic or photonic device and circuit fabrication.

  • Hands-on experience with repairing cleanroom tools and management experience is preferred.
