JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director in the Morgan Academic Center for Student-Athletes. We are seeking a proven leader with 3-5 years supervisory experience. This position will oversee our football academic staff. A successful applicant will have extensive knowledge of all NCAA rules and regulations and conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity. The position will also serve as a critical counselor within the Morgan Academic Center team and on the MAC leadership team, assisting with strategic initiatives and overall department advancement. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to problem-solve and handle sensitive information and nuanced situations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, coaches, and staff.

  • Able to demonstrate ability to work well with diverse groups

  • Provide direct oversight to the football athletic academic team;

  • Manage an effective process of monitoring student-athlete academic progress, incorporating current best practices in the profession.

  • Serve as the advisorto a designated group of football student-athletes; monitor their academic progress, provide course advisement, and educate students on eligibility rules.

  • Regularly communicate progress and outcomes to the Directors of Learning Services and the Morgan Academic Center.

  • Partners with college advisers to assist students regarding university degree programs and requirements,academic standards, and general course selection.

  • Ensures student-athletes assigned are making progress towards their degree.

  • Monitors and checks schedules and records academic progress and grades for progress and eligibility compliance with Big Ten, NCAA, PSU, and college rules.

Educational/Certification Requirements:

  • Minimally requires a Master’s degree in education, counseling, sports management, or a related field and six years of experience in academic advising, preferably in a Division I collegiate athletics setting.

  • Strong understanding of NCAA academic eligibility requirements and compliance regulations.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including coaches, faculty, and administrators.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment for student-athletes.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. It also requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 – $81,500.00
