ROLE of the POSITION

Oversee the coordination of all mental health and sports psychology services. Coordinate and implement delivery of a range of psychological services to student-athletes including individual and group counseling, intake evaluation and assessment, performance enhancement with both individuals and teams, and consultation and training with coaches, medical staff, and athletic administration. Implement mental health screening for all incoming student-athletes and provide the appropriate follow-up and referrals. Implement performance screening for specific teams and/or student-athletes. Oversee the referral process for student-athletes utilizing other providers for a variety of reasons (i.e. personal preference, area of expertise, level of severity) and coordinate with any providers that are contracted with athletics to provide services. Serve as the direct report and/or supervisor (until licensed) for additional staff members, which may include either doctorate level or masters level providers.

Conduct ongoing needs surveys, quality improvement studies, and program evaluation.  Engage alongside other department heads (i.e. Director of Sport Performance, Sport Dietitian, Director of Sports Medicine) in continuous development and implementation of protocols and procedures. Specifically, protocols and procedures for the management of ADHD, Substance Use, Eating Disorders, Body Image, and Crisis Response.

Develop programming for increased mental health awareness and advocacy. Work alongside student-athletes and staff to proactively educate and provide awareness surrounding mental health and gaining support. Create educational tools, coordinate possible speakers or events (i.e. mental health awareness games), and oversee any student-led advocacy. 

Act as a liaison between the athletic department and the counseling center, serving on both counseling and athletic department committees as needed. This position will report to the Director of CAPS for all clinical services and will abide by CAPS policies and procedures. The position will report to the Associate Athletics Director for all other job functions.

This position should have a basic knowledge of NCAA rules as it pertains to assigned job duties and the scope of employment.  In addition, the individual will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval from Athletics Compliance, prior to participating in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Doctorate Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a minimum of two years of related professional experience and a minimum of one year of supervisory and managerial experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
