Maryland seeks two dynamic and creative Associate Directors of
Development to cultivate and solicit individual donors for the
Clark School’s initiatives and priorities. Reporting to the Clark
School’s Director of Development, the candidates will apply
knowledge and understanding of the University of Maryland and the
Clark School of Engineering, its traditions, programs, needs and
priorities to the development process. The Associate Directors will
represent the Clark School of Engineering to internal and external
audiences while working with members of the university community to
advance our mission. They must be able to persuasively discuss
academic and research programs, needs and priorities with
prospective donors and volunteers.
The Associate Directors of Development will be assigned to support
the major gift activities of multiple departments and/or programs
and geographic areas outside of the metropolitan Washington, DC,
area. Each candidate will manage a portfolio of approximately 100
major gift prospects with the objective of discovering, qualifying,
cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding major gifts from
$50,000 – $1M+ and developing a strong portfolio of supporters.
These individuals are expected to partner effectively with
Engineering faculty and leadership as well as volunteers, acting as
a liaison to department chairs and center/program directors for
fundraising strategy. The Associate Directors will monitor
all prospect contacts in their assigned departments to ensure
positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations. They will
advise department chairs on volunteer engagement and alumni
relations, including the departmental advisory boards. They will
organize, assist with, and attend programming and event activities
for the Clark School of Engineering and the university as
appropriate. The Associate Directors may take on special
fundraising projects within their assigned academic departments and
units, as approved by the Director of Development.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects, cultivating,
soliciting and stewarding individual donors at the $50,000 level
and above. - Make a minimum of 10-12 prospect visits each month, both
locally and nationally. Additional metrics including the number of
solicitations per year and gifts closed per year will be determined
annually.
The Associate Directors will report to the Director of
Development and work with them on donor strategies and fundraising
goals. They will attend and may facilitate, in areas of expertise,
specialized training and professional development sessions with
deans, directors, faculty and staff, and volunteers.
These positions require time out of the office to meet with
prospective donors and travel is expected for approximately 50% of
the time. Local and national travel are expected and some nights
and weekends are required. Hybrid work is permissible within
University and unit guidelines which are subject to change.
