Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’
focus on research, teaching, and patient care and its role as a
national and global leader in higher education. We create and
foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and
philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine,
strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors,
alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and
patients.

 

Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model that
includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid
work arrangement with an onsite presence of 2-3 days per week. The
manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority
or all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel
on university business can count those days towards their onsite
days.

 

The Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) seeks
an Associate Director of Foundation
Relations to join our team in achieving our
fundraising program objectives. The Associate Director is a member
of the school’s External Affairs team and is essential in our
effort to secure philanthropic support and recognize the impact of
the Krieger School’s mission of education, research, and discovery.
This represents a new position for the school.

 
The position will secure funding from new and
existing private foundation partners for the benefit of KSAS and
its departments, centers, institutes, faculty, and initiatives.
This requires building strong relationships with KSAS faculty
within the primary academic divisions of the school—natural
sciences, humanities, and social sciences—and staying abreast of
current opportunities for research funding associated with
each.
 

The Associate Director will also partner closely with the
central office of Foundation Relations and with the school’s
administrative and academic leadership to develop comprehensive
approaches in support of the Dean’s strategic plan. The position
will report to the school’s Sr. Director of Development.

 
Specific Duties and
Responsibilities:

• Work in partnership with the Sr. Director of Development and
  Foundation Relations to maximize revenues from primarily private
  foundations and potentially public funding sources. This
  includes:
• Identifying, soliciting, and securing funding from foundations
  through both existing relationships and new
  opportunities/programs.
• Assisting faculty directly in discovering funding
  opportunities, and drafting submissions (e.g., LOIs, concept or
  white papers, proposals, etc.)
• Building and managing a portfolio of foundations to maximize
  opportunities that match funders’ interests with institutional
  needs.
• Working closely with KSAS departments, centers, programs, and
  institutes, while collaborating with Hopkins partners across the
  institution.
• Serving as a point of contact for Foundation Relations within
  the school.
• Conduct landscape analysis, including current and former
  foundation relationships and federal opportunities, to prioritize
  grant potential and funding fit based on the school’s
  priorities.
• Collaborate with leadership and faculty to identify and enhance
  their existing research collaborations with foundations as well as
  identify, cultivate, and execute new relationships.
• Create mechanisms and presentations for educating and building
  strong partnerships with faculty to amplify foundation support
  opportunities. Comprehend and distill complex research to
  understand faculty interests and needs.
• Utilize various philanthropic and foundation-centered
  databases, industry publications, and other resources to build an
  ongoing schedule/calendar, as well as outreach log, for foundation
  grant application deadlines and KSAS submissions.
• Work with the Sr. Director of Development to establish annual
  fundraising goals. Actively participate in the development,
  implementation, monitoring, and assessment of strategies to achieve
  goals.
• Conduct intermittent travel as necessary to meet with
  development colleagues or foundation staff/leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Five years of related experience, with minimum two years
  foundation fundraising experience. Writing, foundation, and
  academic experience preferred.

• Must live within commuting distance to the Baltimore campus and
  able to work on-campus 2+ days per week and remotely the balance of
  the time.
