Position Description
The Offices of Student Affairs (OSA), working with Program in Medical Education (PME) leadership, promotes the individual and professional growth and development of Harvard medical students. OSA includes the Offices of the Dean for Students, Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs (ORMA) and Learning Resources and Support (OLRS) and the Academic Societies and engages with the MD student body to enhance or address aspects of the student experience, including academic advising, student life and wellbeing, career planning, and diversity and inclusion.
Reporting directly to the Director of Student Affairs and working collaboratively with the Dean for Students and Advisory Deans and academic advisors, the Associate Director of Academic Societies Advising and Administration (ADASAA) position is integral to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for medical students ensuring their success through comprehensive academic advising and participation in academic societies, the MD program’s learning communities. The ADASAA will lead the operations of MD student advising and the academic societies, while also working collaboratively with the Academic Society Advisory Deans and Advisors. The ADASAA will need to be highly collaborative and will work with faculty and staff across the PME to best support MD students. The ADASAA will specifically lead, develop, plan and execute developmental opportunities for faculty and staff involved with the advising of MD students. The person in this role will also lead departmental efforts for the creation and adherence to advising and other related HMS student policies, including the development of an advising manual, advising training and advising best practices.
The ADASSA will also provide oversight to over 100 MD student organizations and the HMS student council. This will include advisement and oversight of student organizations, including student leadership development, adherence to HMS and Harvard policies, integrating the use of technology to manage student organizations and being a leader in the area of student development and student group management at HMS. The ADASAA will work closely with the Dean for Students and Director of Student Affairs on all student group procedures.
As a member of the OSA leadership team, the ADASAA works in close partnership with the Director of Student Affairs to lead, develop, support and innovate programs and initiatives across the OSA. The ADASAA supervises one staff member. The ADASAA also engages in QI initiatives to ensure student programs meet or exceed Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards and implements assessment strategies to measure the impact of advising and the Academic Societies on student outcomes.

Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
