 Job Summary

 

The Associate Director, Planned Gifts is responsible for the
development, promotion and implementation of Cambridge in America’s
growing planned giving program and reports to the Senior Director,
Development. The Associate Director works closely with CAm
development staff, as well as colleagues from the University of
Cambridge (UK) and the constituent Cambridge Colleges to secure
bequests and other planned gifts. The Associate Director will
identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward an emerging group
of donors and prospects. This work includes following up on
expressions of interest, fielding technical planned giving
questions, collaborating with colleague gift officers, maintaining
a regular visitation schedule and traveling as necessary to meet
with donors and planned prospects.

 

Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation and Solicitation:

  • Work with the Senior Director of Development and other
    colleagues to create and execute a customized general and regional
    planned giving strategy to identify, research, cultivate, solicit,
    and steward existing planned gift donors and new prospects.
  • Manage a targeted portfolio of approximately 65-75 individual
    planned giving prospects with the capacity to make gifts through
    bequests, gifts-in-kind, Qualified Charitable Distributions, and
    Donor-Advised Funds, and other vehicles.
  • Achieve annual donor visit goals through local and national
    travel bolstered by regular communication.
  • Achieve annual goals for growing The 1209 Society, the planned
    gift society of Cambridge in America.
  • Manage other strategic aspects of The 1209 Society:
    communication and recognition opportunities for new members,
    stewardship of existing members, and a schedule of annual strategic
    events.

 Communications:

  • In collaboration with colleagues from the Strategic Engagement
    Team, create a robust communication plan designed to attract new
    planned gifts donors and steward existing donors; this plan is
    expected to include:
    • Marketing and informational materials to promote methods and
      benefits of estate planning to prospects and donors;
    • Producing content for regular 1209 Society newsletters; in
      print and electronic versions;
    • Identifying appropriate donor stories and other content to be
      included on the website and on social media.

 Capacity Building:

  • Remain current in areas of planned giving instruments, giving
    trends, and legal/regulatory aspects of and tax-related benefits
    for planned gifts.
  • Conduct internal training sessions on planned giving best
    practices as appropriate.
  • In addition to proactive outreach, respond to any inquiries
    received by CAm.
  • Ensure appropriate support for fundraising work with prospects,
    including updating and maintaining planned giving donor files,
    databases, research, and proposal information,

as well as acting as an internal resource for planned giving for
the fundraising team. 

  • Serve as the organizational point of contact for significant
    gifts-in-kind.
  • Review and edit briefing materials and correspondence, when
    requested.
  • Assist with the implementation and staffing of CAm and
    University of Cambridge events, including occasional night and
    weekend events and travel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Meet personal and program performance metrics as set at the
    beginning of each fiscal year.

 

 Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two-three years of fundraising experience,
    preferably at an elite institution of higher education, with
    demonstrated results from individuals in a variety of complex gift
    situations.
  • Excellent judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the
    ability to cooperate and communicate in a professional manner with
    Board members, prospective donors, high-level volunteers, and
    members at all levels in the University and the Colleges.
  • Capacity to develop trust and maintain highly collegial and
    collaborative working relationships among staff and volunteers and
    members of the Cambridge community.
  • A high degree of professionalism, including the demonstrated
    ability to manage responsibilities with accountability,
    flexibility, integrity, and tact.
  • Knowledge of relevant tax law and familiarity with
    philanthropic legal frameworks preferable.
  • Results-oriented with strong organizational skills and a
    demonstrated ability for excellent project management from
    inception to completion and follow-up. Ability to pursue plans
    effectively or change course if necessary and to facilitate
    projects in “start-up” mode.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to regularly travel domestically and
    internationally.
  • Ability to work in the US.

 

The salary range for this position is $90,000 – $135,000 per
annum, dependent on candidate experience and the final agreed upon
title.

CAm is currently operating on a hybrid schedule of three days
working in the office and two days working remotely.

CAm requires that all staff be fully vaccinated. Please note
