Org. Setting and Reporting
This position will support the Public Private Partnerships (PPP) Section and the Trade Facilitation Section (TFS) of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division (ECTD) in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), based in Geneva, Switzerland.

The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the P5, Chiefs of Section (PPP and TFS) and the general supervision of D1, Chief of Service, ECTD.

This position is temporarily available for an initial period of three (3) months with possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Economic Affairs Officer is responsible for:

Economic and/or sector analysis:
• Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses statistics and qualitative socio-economic information on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Sustainable Value Chains (SVCs) and their contribution to sustainable development, particularly in critical sectors for the digital and green transition, and for countries with economies in transition;
• Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on PPPs and SVCs in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists;
• Assists in the organization and servicing of the Eight UNECE International PPP Forum and the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation e-Business Forum.

Intergovernmental support:
• Prepares inputs for reports to the ECE Committee on Innovation, Competitiveness and PPPs, the Working Party on PPPs, the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and the Team of Specialists on ESG Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in the Circular Economy.

Technical cooperation:
• Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects in the field of PPPs and SVCs.

General:
• Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services;
• Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in Economics or a related field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
