Org. Setting and Reporting
The Sustainable Development Goals provide an opportunity to deliver change, with women’s empowerment as a prerequisite for achieving the Goals. The Women & Trade programme delivers on ITC’s commitment to the Global Goals, particularly Goal 5 (achieving gender equality and empowering women) and Goal 8 (inclusive and sustainable economic growth). The International Trade Centre (ITC) launched the SheTrades Initiative to ensure that the right capacities and conditions are present to foster inclusive and sustainable trade. Within the framework of the initiative, the outputs of the programme are: • Facilitating the improvement of the policy and regulatory environment in which women entrepreneurs operate • Strengthening the institutional support framework and improve trade related support to women entrepreneurs • Developing sectors critical to the economic empowerment of women producers in target countries • Enhancing women entrepreneurs’ capacity and the competitiveness of their products and services • Making buyers and partners (including investors) more accessible to women entrepreneurs
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head, Women & Trade Programme, and within delegated authority, the Associate Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Economic and/or sector analysis: • Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to particular sectors, countries, regions or development topics. • Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organizes non-quantitative information. • Assists in the design, testing, operation and modification of econometric models. • Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on economic or sector issues in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists; • Prepares first drafts of sector, country or regional components of analytical studies on development issues and policies. • Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars, etc on development issues. Advocacy: • Prepares inputs for and helps develop and implement, work programmes for key trade and gender networks. • Follows key trade and gender meetings and networks and prepares summary reports • Assists in the organization of panels, round tables etc. on trade and gender issues. Technical cooperation: • Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals in the area of economic development. • Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects. • Contributes to the preparation of material for the approval of regional, country or sector technical cooperation projects. • Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects. General: • Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services; • Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, or related field. A first-level university degree in economics, or related field in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. Experience working on gender and trade policy is desirable. Experience in international trade and/or trade-related organizations is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
