Y Magazine Associate Editor
Y Magazine, an award-winning publication with an audience of more than 400,000 graduates, students, and friends of BYU, is one of the university’s premier communications channels. We’re looking for a strong editor and writer who is able to leverage both traditional and new media (including web, social, video, and podcasting) to share the BYU story far and wide. This position will work with a talented team of editors, designers, photographers, videographers, and technology specialists to create impactful messages that advance the university’s mission.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Research, write, and edit articles for print and web publication
- Manage the magazine website
- Lead the magazine’s social-media strategy and content creation
- Produce the Y Magazine podcast and direct the work of the podcast host
- Work with a video team to create media to support articles
- Mentor student employees in writing/editing, SEO, and other related skills
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field
- 1 year of experience in a related field
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Journalistic skills of evaluating ideas and reporting, writing, and editing engaging, impactful content
- Understanding of various communications strategies and developing trends in content, publication, distribution, technology, etc.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field
- 3 years of experience in a related field or 1 year in magazine editing and production
