Associate/Full Professor of Clinical Pharmacy (Teaching Track) Pharmacology and Drug Development; Science and Management of Biomedical Therapeutics

The USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month calendar, non-tenure track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy.  Candidates must be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, curriculum development and grant writing within the areas of neuropharmacology, addiction science, neuroimmunology or translational science.  Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant field (pharmacology, biochemistry, neurosciences, for example). The candidate must have a documented track record in curricular development and academic course management within graduate, professional and undergraduate education, with emphasis in Neuropharmacology and Drug Discovery/Development related to addiction science, neurodegenerative diseases and immunology that will allow the candidate to develop and teach within novel experiential programs centered on these and related subjects. The candidate must demonstrate ability in the use of innovative instructional strategies and techniques that engage graduate and undergraduate students, including cooperative, experimental, and practical learning methods. The candidate will work closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education at the Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to expand the educational opportunities in the growing undergraduate major and minor degree programs offered to USC students with an interest in careers in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences.

The candidate will additionally support the development, analysis, and application of educational and research proposals and implementation within the Titus Family Clinical Pharmacy department. A track record of accomplishment should include: (1) professional and scholarly activities in the design and implementation of clinical, translational, and laboratory protocols for research; (2) a publication record documenting both self-directed and collaborative research and (3) skills in evaluating and recommending statistical methods for data analysis and interpreting results; (4) submitted or accessible teaching content and performance evaluations; (5) demonstrated experience in inclusive teaching methods and leadership in diversity and inclusion within their prior academic and professional work environments that are brought to the education setting.

The candidate will be appointed as Associate/Full Professor (Teaching Track) within the USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Teaching and mentoring activities at all involved curricular levels should total of at least 80% of all USC activities. This will include undergraduate teaching, course development, and laboratory development and training, with excellence in these pursuits demonstrated and fulfilled toward consideration for promotion. Scholarly activities and university service are important contributions for the well-rounded faculty candidate’s recruitment and success. The position does not lead to consideration for tenure.

The position calls for the following specific performance activities: 

  • Teaching and working with invited speakers and other faculty for approximately 30-35 hours per course, two to three courses per semester.
  • Preparing and grading examinations in association with other instructors.
  • Holding office hours at a frequency adequate to allow students to ask timely questions specific to lectures and outlines.
  • Curriculum development for assigned undergraduate courses.
  • Development and management of a laboratory experience for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Working with students on journal club presentations, scholarly projects and theses.
  • Developing experiential learning opportunities for BS, MS, PharmD and PhD students.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position does not lead to consideration for tenure. Merit review is conducted annually from which salary enhancements are decided. Re-appointment and eventual promotion are expectations based on performance assessment and longitudinally via administrative review. Excellence in teaching will be evaluated using a variety of assessment strategies . Re-appointment and eventual promotion on the teaching track are expectations based on performance assessment, dossier submission and internal and external review utilizing the School’s Teaching Track Faculty Promotion Guidelines.

The annual base salary range for this position is $130,000 – $160,000.
