ABOUT THE ORGANISATION:
Townsville Flexible Learning Centre has approximately 130 young people aged between 11-21 years old, in grades 7-12. Bowen Education Engagement Program has approximately 20 young people in graded 7-10. Burdekin Education Program has approximately 15 young people in grades 7-10.
Flexible Learning Centres are Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice tradition. The Flexible Learning Centres (FLCs) are small schools that offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling.
Young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and FLCs respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of a Flexible Learning Centre is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking an Associate Head of Campus to commence in January 2024. This position will be remunerated at Assistant Principal level.
Staff are expected to work within the framework of common ground and demonstrate the ability to work under the four principles of operation; Respect, Honesty, Participation and Safe and Legal.
This position exists to provide leadership support across Townsville Flexible Learning Centre and campuses at Bowen and Burdekin. This leadership role is broad in its scope and focuses on the total operations of the school.
The role works in close cooperation with the Head of Campus, the Associate Head of Campus – Bowen and Burdekin, the Area Principal.

ABOUT YOU:
- Tertiary qualifications in Teaching with eligibility for teacher registration with Queensland College of Teachers is desirable or Tertiary qualifications in Social/Behavioural Sciences e.g., Social Work, Community Services or Psychology (valid Blue Card essential) and current open driver ‘s license and willingness to drive school buses.
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of Edmund Rice Education Australia. The person needs to be able to demonstrate a commitment to building just communities based on the Touchstones of; Inclusive community, Gospel Spirituality, Justice and Solidarity and Liberating Education, which enhance learning and wellbeing for young people.
- Demonstrated leadership of the development and maintenance of programs for young people at risk. Substantial knowledge of, and experience in, one or more of the aspects of leadership (as identified in the Key Accountabilities in the position description). The person needs to be able to demonstrate an ability to assist staff in this area and to engage in reflective practice on how to best enhance learning for disenfranchised young people.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to provide leadership in trauma transformative practice and wellbeing support that supports young people to build a learner identity, achieve positive social outcomes, and re-engage in education.
- Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing a range of learning choices and assessments that meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of young people at risk.
- Commitment to and ability to lead a multi-disciplinary community in reflection around working together under four principles of operation: Respect, Safe and Legal, Honesty and Participation. The principles establish a common ground among staff, young people and families, where the means to resolve difference, negotiate learning, recognise rights, responsibilities and consequences are modelled and explored, both within the group and individually.
