Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship
The position of Associate Investment Officer is assigned to the Risk Analytics Unit (RAU) within the Private Sector Operations Department. You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
You will report to Advisor, OPSD and Head, RAU and/or designated Staff and will oversee administrative staff.
Your Role
As an Associate Investment Officer you will provide analytical support for the processing of portfolio and new transactions, with emphasis on analytical and technical support for the audit and the development of coherent financial models based on best practice and ADB’s standards and templates. You will also provide analytical support to the area of portfolio management, as well as valuation of equity investments, or other areas of analytical support in line with RAU’s mandate
You will:
Financial Modeling and Audit
- Build well-designed, well-structured and user friendly bespoke financial models for different types of companies and infrastructure projects, for debt and/or equity investments, in line with industry best practice and PSOD’s criteria, and incorporating key findings from due diligence and comments from the deal teams and clients as appropriate;
- Review, audit, modify and sensitize financial models (including proper documentation of all changes) for corporates in various sectors and infrastructure projects which have been designed and built by sponsors or ADB’s deal teams for the use in ADB’s risk assessment process;
- Conduct walkthrough of the bespoke financial models with counterparties;
- Develop and conduct training programs on best practice in financial modeling and key accounting fundamentals and their integration to financial models;
- Conduct financial analysis and due diligence to understand key business drivers of the companies and use findings to design and build bespoke financial models;
- Conduct benchmark analysis using relevant peers to validate the reasonableness of the assumptions and stress scenarios used in the financial model; and
- Perform other tasks, as may be required.
Data Analytics
- Develop and applies tools to analyze larger datasets, for example multiple financial models, for the use in transaction benchmarking or portfolio analyses;
- Build dashboards for effective data visualization.
Risk Appraisal of New Transactions
- Review, assesses, and provides recommendations for key transaction risks, covering, inter alia, sponsor, commercial and structure risks in proposed and existing financing transactions;
- Provide advice and recommendations to deal origination teams on appropriate risk mitigation measures, deal structuring, security arrangements and financial covenants throughout the risk appraisal process; and
- Participate in drafting risk appraisals for nonsovereign loan, guarantee and equity transactions in both the concept review and final approval stages.
Transaction Monitoring
- Provide support to monitoring for nonsovereign loan, guarantee and equity transactions, and support the preparation of relevant risk appraisals or valuations.
Others
- Participate in selected due diligence conference calls and missions;
- Assume ad hoc project duties and other forms of assignments, as required; and
- Provide support to other divisions and units in PSOD as and when needed for special projects and tasks.
Qualifications
You will need:
- University degree in business administration, finance, or relevant fields, preferably with master’s degree, advance training and/or qualification as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
- At least six (6) years of relevant professional experience in international bank, rating agency, accounting firm, or multilateral/bilateral development organization, in financial modeling, risk management, deal origination or investment appraisal.
- Demonstrated experience in: (i) designing and building financial models for different types of companies, including corporates in various sectors and infrastructure projects, (ii) modifying and auditing complex financial models for various project finance and corporate finance deals, and (iii) back-testing of financial models;
- Strong financial analysis and forecasting skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to details;
- Solid knowledge and understanding of accounting fundamentals (including sector-specific accounting standards) and application of these concepts in building bespoke financial models;
- Mastery in Microsoft Excel with ability to build highly granular models and various sensitivity scenarios for debt and equity transactions. Other IT skills such as Power BI or Power Query are a plus;
- Strong coordination, interpersonal and diplomacy skills;
- Good familiarity with risk rating tools, and developments in the area of risk management;
- Strong report-writing and communication skills in English and

Additional Information
This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew for an initial period of 3 (three) years following Section 3.1 (b) of Administrative Order No. 2.01 (“Recruitment and Appointment’). This appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment. It may be extended on an exceptional basis for a further fixed period at the option of ADB. This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.
