UCL’s Department of Computer Science (CS) is a top-ranked Computer Science Department in the UK. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) evaluation, UCL Computer Science was ranked second in the UK for research power and first in England.
We are an experimental department and computer science sits at the nexus of a broad range of interdisciplinary collaborations across UCL.
We are now recruiting Associate Lecturer (Teaching) positions to support our developing education portfolio in Robotics & AI, based in our new UCL East Campus.
Reporting the Programme Directors of MEng and MSc Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Associate Lecturers provide up to 18 contact hours per week, which includes face-to-face teaching, online teaching when required and office hours. They provide high quality teaching to develop students’ academic language, academic subject knowledge and application, laboratory and fieldwork skills. Teaching fellows are expected to provide rigorous well-designed formative and summative assessment and feedback marking promptly to students. They also work collaboratively with colleagues within the MEng and MSc Robotics and AI programmes, to support course development and student experience.
More specifically, your responsibilities may include:
- Undertaking teaching and assessment in support of our new master’s programmes (MSc/MEng in Robotics and AI).
- Supporting laboratory sessions in selected modules.
- Contributing to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
- Supervision and assessment of student projects and projects.
- Undertaking teaching-related administrative duties.
- Maintaining your own continuing professional development in university education.
- Taking part in teaching research opportunities.
- Supervising or assisting with supervision of undergraduate or taught graduate (Masters) students.
- Participating in the development, administration and marking of exams and other assessments.
There is one fulltime (1 FTE) and two 0.5 FTE positions being recruited.
The salary scale for grade 7 is £42,099 – £50,585 p.a inclusive of London Allowance. Pro rata for part time positions.
The successful candidate will have a degree in robotics, AI, computer science, or a closely related field, and at least A-level (or equivalent) or university teaching assistance experience in the subject area. Candidates must also have experience working with hardware and laboratory equipment in the broad field of robotics. They will have excellent written and oral English language and communication skills, as well as strong inter-personal skills and confidence in use of ICT.
