The post is located in the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), Hague Branch. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Appeals Counsel and/or Legal Officer(s) overseeing diverse legal activities.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following duties: • Assist in evidence analysis and the preparation of legal arguments, briefs, motions and other documents, and draft background memoranda. • Undertake legal research on a diverse range of factual, procedural and substantive issues in criminal law, international law, and international humanitarian law using multiple research sources; select relevant material, analyse information and present findings for internal review in either written or oral form. • Assist in the preparation of evidence and the evaluation of testimony and evidence admitted during trial. • Perform other duties and special assignments as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law with a specialisation in international, criminal or humanitarian law. A first- level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible professional legal experience, including legal analysis, research and writing, is required. Working experience in UN International Criminal Tribunals is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. For the post advertised, fluency in written and spoken English and French, with excellent drafting and oral ability, is required. NOTE: Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and “knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
