OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is a specialized Category-I institute that works on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 Target 7 towards education for building peaceful and sustainable societies across the world by developing programmes and products that promote social and emotional learning, innovate digital pedagogies and empower the youth.
UNESCO MGIEP‘s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions draw on the science of learning and aim to build intellectual and emotional intelligence among learners through innovative pedagogies.
Long Description
The primary role of the Associate National Project Officer– Digital Communications is to support the communications team to increase the Institute’s brand visibility and outreach globally across its internal and external stakeholders.
Main duties and responsibilities
Under the overall authority of the Director of the Institute and direct supervision of the Senior National Project Officer (Communications), and in close coordination with Associate National Project Officer Communications, the incumbent will provide digital communications expertise in maximizing global visibility and awareness of the Institute, its mandate, projects, and events through a comprehensive and integrated approach to marketing. More particularly, the incumbent will support the communications team to increase the impact of its digital channels through:
Long Description
- Manage the content strategy of the website and upload content in a timely manner.
- Support the Communications team in drafting and editing website content and assist in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) exercise for the Institute’s digital channels.
- Support the Communications Officer to increase the impact of the Institute’s social media channels (including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc) with distinct monthly target reports of key outputs on each channel.
- Co-ordinate the execution of a social media content strategy with programme teams and social media agencies. Send out targeted newsletters and updates to all stakeholders periodically.
Long Description
- Support the implementation of the email marketing strategy, continuously work to expand the Institute’s database and keep it updated.
- Work with the communications team and programme teams to develop an online community of MGIEP’s champions across social channels (i.e. Master Trainer Teachers on LinkedIn / Instagram through the #TeachersAsHeroes campaign).
- Support the team in expanding the Institute’s outreach by identifying and reaching out to relevant partners and stakeholders to establish partnerships and opportunities for collaboration on social media.
- Support the communications team in implementing the Institute-wide communications activities for events and workshops, including but not limited to pre-event conceptualization, audience acquisition, branding, on-ground execution, and post-event messaging.
- Support the communications team in the dissemination of publications such as The Blue DOT, Annual Report and research reports, policy briefs, and more.
- Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in marketing, digital media, social media, and related disciplines.
Work Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in digital communications, brand management, or communications.
- Excellent knowledge of digital design tools.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken).
- Working Knowledge of Hindi.
Skills and competencies
- Substantial experience in designing outreach and marketing campaigns for promoting university-level courses to universities, education/teacher networks, and Youth NGOs.
- Initiating and managing collaborations and partnerships with higher education institutions and other partners.
- Basic understanding of social and emotional learning.
- Project and event management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under high pressure.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Degree/ certification in Journalism or mass communication.
Experience:
- International communications experience with the UN or other agencies in the development sector.
Languages:
- Knowledge of another UNESCO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) or regional Indian languages.
BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS
UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate Net Pensionable annual starting salary for this post is INR 1,879,939 subject to deduction of pension, insurance, etc.
