Role:
The Associate Nuclear Safety Officer (Research Reactors) is: (1) a programme supporter, contributing to planning and implementing activities aimed at assisting Member States to enhance safety of research reactors; (2) a technical assistant, supporting evaluation, development and implementation of technical cooperation and programme activities in the area of safety of research reactors (3) an analyst, gathering, monitoring, evaluating, extracting, consolidating data from different sources and documentation available in-house and obtained from Member States for the purpose of providing scientific, engineering technical, and project managerial support to professional Section staff; (4) a presenter of programmatic activities and developments.
Functions / Key Results Expected:
- Gather information, and extract, consolidate, and evaluate data from relevant sources for the purpose of supporting the identification of the needs of Member States, and for providing support to planning activities to address these needs.
- Develop and draft technical material for use in development of safety standards and technical documents on safety of research reactors.
- Provide analytical and technical support in organization, implementation, and analysis of results of peer review and advisory missions, including contribution to development of material and publications on dissemination of feedback from these activities.
- Contribute to development and implementation of capacity building activities, including preparation of technical presentations, training materials, and coordinated research projects, as well as organization, in cooperation with other internal stakeholders, of technical meetings and training workshops on relevant topics.
- Provide technical input and support to the implementation of technical cooperation and extrabudgetary projects, including those on operational safety and establishing new research reactor programmes.
- Bachelor’s Degree – University degree in nuclear physics or engineering or a related field.
- Minimum two years of experience related to design, safety analysis, construction, operation, or regulatory supervision of research reactors.
- Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
